Frequently asked questions

What is Sabai?
Sabai is a Dutch-language forum for expats, digital nomads and travellers in Thailand, with an English section. A calm place to ask questions, share experiences and find people going through the same things as you.
Does it cost anything?
No. Sabai is free to read and to use. No subscriptions, no advertisements, no tracking for advertising networks.
How do I sign up?
Go to Sign up, enter your email address, click the link in your inbox and you are logged in. No passwords to remember.
Why log in with an email link?
It is safer than passwords. No reusable secret to leak, no brute-force attacks, and you do not need a password manager. We send you a fresh, short-lived link every time.
When can I post?
Straight after confirming your email. In the first week there is a light rate limit on posts, so that spammers do not find it worth the effort.
Can I edit my topic later?
Yes, within 24 hours of posting you can still edit your own topic or reply. After that it is fixed (or ask a moderator for help).
How do notifications work?
Click "Follow topic" on a topic to be notified of new replies. Or get mentioned with @username and you also get a notification. You see everything in Notifications.
Is there a Sabai app?
Yes. The iPhone app Sabai: Living in Thailand is coming soon to the App Store, free. With every visa guide offline, your own stay dates with reminders, and the forum. Read more about the app.
How does Sabai moderate?
A small team of volunteer moderators reads along. They pin good guides, close threads that get out of hand, and remove spam. Every report is looked at within 24 hours, and every decision is recorded in a moderation log.
Delete my account?
You do that yourself, and it takes effect at once: on the website in Settings, Delete account, in the app in More, Sabai account, Delete account. You choose whether your topics and replies stay under an anonymised name, or everything is deleted.
Is Sabai owned by a company?
Sabai is an independent publication of A Brand New Company, a small technology house working from Bang Sare, Sisaket and the Netherlands. No investors, no growth obligations, no advertising deals.
